Communications Committee
(Established July 2001)
This Committee is composed of eight or more regular members of the
Society, plus a trainee member. The Society’s Communications Director,
Director of Government Relations and Science Policy, and Director of
Publications are ex-officio members of the Communications Committee,
without vote. Council and the Trainee Advisory Committee will each designate
one of its members to serve as a liaison to the Committee.
Duties of the Communications Committee are to:

Provide direction, set
priorities, and devise strategies for the promotion of the physiological
sciences, the Society, and the Society’s interests and activities.

Make recommendations on new
opportunities and technologies to enhance internal and external
communications.

Work with the Communications
Office and other APS staff to develop methods for timely identification of
APS journal articles, elements of APS meetings and conferences, APS awards,
and other Society activities that are appropriate for promotion to the
public.

Advise on the integrity of the
scientific content embedded in all communications efforts.

Evaluate applications for the
AAAS Mass Media Fellowship.

Organize, when appropriate, a symposium at the annual Experimental Biology
meeting on communications strategies or mechanisms that would be of interest to
members of APS and other FASEB societies.

Review the APS communications program annually and provide appropriate
recommendations to Council.
