Life-Long Learning

Just because you have a degree does not mean you are done with learning. Learning must be a life-time commitment if you are to be successful in your career, especially in today's fast-changing world.*

The APS and the Association of Chairs of Departments of Physiology recommend that trainees understand the importance of and work to develop the following skills:

  1. Awareness of various career opportunities available
  2. Awareness of contemporary issues in physiology
  3. Willingness to examine, adapt, and adopt practices, methods, and ideas from perspectives very different from your own
  4. Commitment to continuously upgrading one's education
  5. Skills associated with independent learning
  6. Self-skills (self-motivation, self-confidence)
(from the APS/ACDP List of Professional Skills for Physiologists and Trainees)
