Maintaining confidentiality when necessary is extremely important in all walks of life, but especially when you are dealing with scientific research on human subjects.

The APS and the Association of Chairs of Departments of Physiology recommend that trainees understand the importance of and work to develop the following professional ethics skills:  

a.	Knowledge of role of confidentiality in human research
b.	Understanding of role of confidentiality in dealing with individuals
