Becoming Involved With Journals

 

As an Author
Original research on any topic of physiology can be submitted to the APS journals. From basic science studies at the genomics level through cellular and organ-based studies to the applied studies at the whole organism and clinical levels, the APS journals cover the gamut of the very best of physiology research.

APS members receive all of the APS journals online for free, and members who are first or last authors of articles can publish scientifically necessary color in their articles for free.

As a Reviewer
The APS Journals are well known for their thorough and fair peer review process. To ensure this, usually two expert referees are invited by an Editor to review each paper. The peer review process is performed online and tracked electronically by the same APS Central system used for submissions. This process made it possible for the Editors of the APS Journals to substantially shorten time to first decision, which currently is less than 30 days on average (see the specific Journal Editor's Page for current statistics).

As an Associate Editor
Each Editor in Chief chooses a group of experts in their field to serve as Associate Editors for the journal. Associate Editors make decisions on articles in their related fields, invite review articles and editorials, and follow the policies and scope of the journal set by the Editor in Chief and the Publications Committee.

As an Editor
The Editor in Chief of each of the APS Journals is chosen after interview by the Publications Committee. The Editor sets the scope of the journal by choosing topics for invited reviews and developing Calls for Papers. The Editor works with the Associate Editors to make decisions on papers, with the Publications Committee on ethical issues, and implements policies set by the Publications Committee.
