Becoming Involved With Journals
As an Author
APS members receive all of the APS journals online for free, and members who are first or last authors of articles can publish scientifically necessary color in their articles for free. Information on the APS journals, including instructions for authors and how to submit a manuscript are available at www.the-aps.org/publications/journals/index.htm. As a ReviewerThe APS Journals are well known for their thorough and fair peer review process. To ensure this, usually two expert referees are invited by an Editor to review each paper. The peer review process is performed online and tracked electronically by the same APS Central system used for submissions. This process made it possible for the Editors of the APS Journals to substantially shorten time to first decision, which currently is less than 30 days on average (see the specific Journal Editor's Page for current statistics).
As an Associate Editor
The Editor in Chief of each of the APS Journals is chosen after interview by the Publications Committee. The Editor sets the scope of the journal by choosing topics for invited reviews and developing Calls for Papers. The Editor works with the Associate Editors to make decisions on papers, with the Publications Committee on ethical issues, and implements policies set by the Publications Committee.
