Grant Writing

 

When you’re faced with needing to write grants to help support your research or new lab there are many resources to help you. 

The APS and the Association of Chairs of Departments of Physiology recommend that trainees understand the importance of and work to develop the following skills:

  1. Knowledge of how to identify various funding sources
  2. Knowledge of types of grants and different approaches to writing them
  3. Ability to develop clear and testable hypothesis, objectives, and research plan
  4. Proficiency in developing grant budgets
  5. Knowledge of submission and evaluation processes
  6. Knowledge of grant review processes
  7. Ability to use scientific literature effectively in writing grant proposals
(from the APS/ACDP List of Professional Skills for Physiologists and Trainees)
