Cancer Research Fellowships and Career Development Awards Announced by the American Association for Cancer Research

Deadline to Apply: December 1, 2005

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the nation's largest and oldest professional society of basic, translational, and clinical cancer research scientists, is now accepting applications for our 2002 Research Fellowships for postdoctoral or clinical fellows and Career Development Awards for scientists at the level of Assistant Professor. There are no geographical or residency requirements for these Fellowships and Awards.

The application deadline is December 1, 2005. Applications are now being accepted for:

The AACR-was established in honor of the late Nobel laureate Dr. Gertrude B. Elion, Scientist Emeritus at Glaxo Wellcome Co. and Past President and Honorary Member of AACR. This Award fosters meritorious basic, translational, or clinical cancer research by a non-tenured, tenure-tracked scientist at the level of Assistant Professor. This one-year award carries a grant of $50,000. Candidates must be tenure-tracked scientists at the level of Assistant Professor at an academic institution anywhere in the world. Candidates must have completed postdoctoral studies or clinical fellowships no later than July 1 of the award year (2002) and ordinarily not more than five years earlier (1997).

AACR Career Development Awards in Cancer Research are two-year awards of $50,000 per year that support research by non-tenured, tenure-track scientists, at the level of Assistant Professor. At the time of application, candidates must be in the first or second year of a full-time, tenure-tracked faculty appointment, at the level of Assistant Professor, in an academic institution anywhere in the world. Check the AACR Website at www.aacr.org  for the Career Development Awards to be granted in 2006.

AACR Research Fellowships provide one-year grants of $30,000 to early career scientists in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. In 2002, AACR will award five Research Fellowships to support salary and benefits for postdoctoral and clinical fellows. Candidates must have been a fellow for at least two years (since July 2000) but not more than five years (since July 1997) prior to the beginning of the award year.

The application deadline is December 1, 2005. For details or to download an application, please visit the AACR Website at www.aacr.org.

Founded in 1907, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is a professional society of more than 17,000 laboratory and clinical scientists engaged in cancer research in the United States, Canada, and more than 60 other countries. AACR's principal activities include fostering advances in cancer and biomedical research through programs that promote scientific communication and science education and training, organizing scientific meetings for the presentation of new and significant discoveries in the cancer field, and publishing five major peer-reviewed scientific journals (Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Cell Growth & Diferentiation, Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, and Molecular Cancer Therapeutics).
