The APS Author Choice program was developed to
allow researcher authors the ability to provide immediate, open
and free access to their work. For a growing number of our
authors, providing open access is a condition of funding. For
others, they simply want to have their latest findings available
to the scientific domain without delay. Still others believe
that paying to make their article free in the first 12 months of
publication is not a worthwhile use of their grant monies.
In an effort to meet the needs of these
authors and in consultation with our members, we have decided to
provide this new option so that authors can elect to release
their results at the time that best suits them. We also hope
that by offering this model, we may be able to reduce
subscription prices in the future.
The APS is a nonprofit organization
devoted to fostering education, scientific research, and dissemination
of information in the physiological sciences. From its beginning
in 1887 the Society has grown to more than 10,500 members
today. APS is a premier not-for-profit publisher in the life
sciences community whose publications are among the most respected
and frequently cited in the world. APS publishes 13 widely
acclaimed scholarly journals and recently posted over 650,000
pages of historical scientific studies online, some dating
back to 1898.
