Life Lines – Episode 21 – Blood Pressure
and the Brain |
|
Did you know that
there is a sensor in the nerve endings in the carotid artery
that rapidly lowers blood pressure when stimulated? This
discovery may one day allow people who are hypertensive to
lower their blood pressure by using a pacemaker-like device
that stimulates the nerve endings in the blood vessels.

treatment. This year’s outreach efforts were among our most
successful. Within the first few days of the meeting, there
had been more than 365 TV and radio mentions of the studies,
including the CBS Early Show and CBS Marketwatch. Key print
and online placements included Fox News, BBC News, WebMD,
UPI.com, US News & World Report, Forbes, ScienceNews, and

Dr. Isis Launches Letters to Our
Daughter Project |
|
As Dr. Isis stated
in her blog “The inspiration for my Letters to Our Daughters
Project comes from my hope that we can recreate our family
tree here, creating a forum where the mothers and aunts in
our fields (which I hope to not limit to physiology, but
that's where I'll start because that's who I know) can share
their wisdom with us. I think there is a wealth of
information among these successful women and I hope to use
this forum to share it with young scientists who are
yearning for that knowledge.”
