Episode 20 of Life Lines is Now Available

Dutch researchers led by Frits Koning of the Leiden University Medical Center have been studying an enzyme that shows promise as a treatment for celiac disease. Preliminary studies showed the enzyme, prolyl endoprotease (PEP), might be able to break down gluten in the stomach before it ever reached the small intestine, where it causes damage. In Episode 20 of Life Lines, we ask Dr. Koning to update us on his research. Please listen to this episode at www.lifelines.tv.

OMB Seeking Public Comment

The OMB on Wednesday released a notice seeking public comment on standard data elements for use in complying with reporting requirements under the Recovery Act. According to the notice, "once the standard data elements are approved, each federal agency must require its recipients of grants, cooperative agreements and loans made under the Recovery Act to report the information and data through a central Governmentwide portal or through an agency information collection process." Comments on the data elements must be submitted by May 1, 2009. In addition, a Federal Acquisition Regulation interim rule on Recovery Act reporting was published on Tuesday. AAMC welcomes comments on these documents (which should be directed to Susan Ehringhaus at sehringhaus@aamc.org by April 17). Lastly, the HHS Office of
Inspector General on Thursday added a new Recovery Act Fund Oversight section to its web site.
