EB Workshop: Chronic Instrumentation in Conscious Small Animals

Plan on attending the Workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 18  from 1-3 pm in Room 252-254 in the Convention Center.  Information about the Workshop, along with PowerPoint presentations are posted at:

http://www8.georgetown.edu/departments/physiology/physios/EB2009Workshop.htm

The goal of this workshop is to provide new and established investigators with technical and practical information to chronically instrument small animals. The increased awareness for understanding physiological and pharmacological responses in awake, behaving animals has grown with the development of new technologies. In this workshop, presentations will focus on technical aspects of surgical preparation, potential problems, and possible applications of various techniques.  After a general overview, presentations will be given on the use of telemetry (Andrew King), fluid sampling (Gregory Fink), brain cannulation and sampling (Carrie Northcott), sympathetic nerve activity (Mark Knuepfer). A question/answer period will complete the program.

Enroll your ARRA Supplement Teacher or Student in APS Summer Research Programs

If you are planning to write a proposal for the “Administrative Supplements Providing Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators” (NOT-OD-09-060) to provide a research opportunity to an undergraduate student or middle/high school teacher to your current NIH grant, the APS invites you to enroll your teacher/student in APS’ proven nationwide research support programs. These programs enhance the overall research experience by helping awardees learn more about the research process and career options in biomedicine. In addition, teachers learn how to use effective science teaching methods that build students’ problem-solving and research skills.
