Committee Nominations
The Committee on Committees makes recommendations for committee
appointments to Council from nominee lists provided by the membership.
Following is a description of the process that occurs for selection of new
committee members.
During November and December, nominations are solicited from the Council
members, members of the Committee on Committees, committee chairs, section
chairs, and members of the Association of Chairs of Departments of
Physiology, as well as from the general membership.
By February, the Committee on Committees receives a list of
all nominees and their nominations forms.
By March, each member of the Committee on Committees chooses
his/her slate of candidates and an alternate for each committee. Selection
is based on qualifications for the particular committee appointment. Section
affiliation, gender, and minority or junior investigator status are also
given serious consideration.
At the spring APS meeting, the Committee on Committees meets to select
the final slate of candidates for committee vacancies.
At the spring Council meeting, the Committee on Committees chair presents
the Committee's recommendations concerning appointments for
committees to Council. Council approves all appointments to committees for
service starting in January of the following year.
In late spring or early summer, members are notified of their appointments to
committees.
Nomination Procedures for Committee Appointments
Any APS member wishing to be a
candidate for a committee position should submit a Candidate Information Form,
and have only one Endorsement Form submitted on his or her behalf. This
allows for the standardization of the type of information required from a
candidate, and the number of supporting nominations submitted. Please
submit a separate Candidate Form and Endorsement form for each committee to
which you are applying. These forms are not for Section Committee positions.
Please note that the
membership of the Joint Program, Liaison with Industry,
Section Advisory and
Trainee Advisory Committees are comprised of representatives appointed by the
individual APS sections, therefore we do not accept nominations for these committees.
Should you know of someone who is interested in serving on one of these
committees, please have them contact their section chair.
Forms should
be submitted only via email to
nominations@the-aps.org. The deadline for submitting the forms is
January 15, 2010 for 2011 committee appointments. Questions concerning
the nomination process can be directed to Linda Jean Dresser, Executive
Assistant, at ldresser@the-aps.org.
